Prof. Sedlařík Has Been Inaugurated to the Office of Rector
Tomas Bata University in Zlín held a ceremony to mark the inauguration of its new Rector, Prof. Ing. Vladimír Sedlařík, Ph.D. on 21 February 2019. The traditional academic ceremony that took place in the TBU Assembly Hall was attended by more than 400 guests from the entire country as well as from abroad.
Prof. Sedlařík received the University symbols from his predecessor, Prof. Ing. Petr Sáha, CSc., namely the Rector’s mace and the Rector’s chain. He later took a Rector’s oath. Prof. Tomáš Zima, Rector of Charles University in Prague, congratulated Prof. Sedlařík on behalf of the Czech Conference of Rectors that associates representatives of all higher education institutions in the Czech Republic. The event was spiced up with live performance by Czech violinist Pavel Šporcl. Newly appointed Vice-Rectors were presented during the ceremony.
Prof. Sedlařík was elected as the candidate to be appointed Rector by the TBU Academic Senate on 16 October 2018 and was appointed to the office by Miloš Zeman, President of the Czech Republic, with effect from 15 December 2018. Prof. Sedlařík is a TBU graduate, he has completed studies in the degree course in Environmental Technology at the Faculty of Technology. He has received the Siemens Award for his PhD thesis. He also participated in a traineeship at the Chalmers University of Technology in Göteborg, Sweden, during his doctoral studies. In 2011 he was appointed Associate Professor and in 2017 he was appointed Professor in Technology of Organic Compounds. Since 2012 he has been holding the post of Vice-Rector for Research and Development and Creative Activities, and since 2016 the post of Director of the TBU Centre of Polymer Systems.
